The Dog Pound is an innovative mixed reality game that employs mobile and MR devices to enhance user engagement in the digital realm. The game's primary objective is to facilitate the cultivation of positive habits among users by leveraging the Hook Model by Nir Eyal. The game aims to promote a healthier lifestyle by encouraging users to engage in physical activities such as walking their virtual pets, in addition to their real-life companions.
the problem
The average adult walks 3,000 - 4,000 steps per day, however, the recommended number of steps per day is 10,000. Many adults are sedentary and stay plugged into their digital devices; many utilize them while sitting down, which is 12 hours a day on average. How might we form a habit for users to enjoy walking while immersed in the digital space?
Goal
In recent years, augmented reality (AR) technologies have gained significant attention as a promising tool for promoting physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior. Despite this potential, there is a lack of research on how AR technologies can be leveraged to encourage individuals to form a habit of walking while they remain engaged in the digital space.
The goal of this academic project is to investigate the use of AR technologies as an intervention for promoting physical activity among individuals who spend a significant amount of time using digital devices. This study will adopt a mixed-methods approach to identify effective strategies for integrating AR technologies into individuals' daily routines while they remain engaged in digital activities.
Solution
Dog Pound becomes a unique solution that promotes wellness while keeping the user immersed within the digital space. By building a habit-forming solution by triggering the user to get up and walk around their neighborhood so they may interact with their virtual friends, complete side quests, and level up their Vpet.
